I have plantar fasciitis
Is there anything I can do management wise?
I have had it a really long time. It flares up after the comp deadlift day but not supplementary pulls
is there anything I can do to manage the pain? Or am I better off reducing the weight on the comp days?
Hey Michelle, sorry to hear about PF. This is typically approached similarly to tendinopathies by adjusting loading (volume and/or intensity) as needed while dosing in regionally specific heavy slow resistance. I’m a biased fan of weighted calf raises off an elevated surface (start on the ground first). Happy to discuss further.
I had PF for about a year and a half (was like torture) and it seemed to be related to my weight and lack of fitness. At the time I weighed 227 at 5’11" was about 30% body fat and very out of shape. I tried all the standard exercises but nothing worked. I dieted down to 195 and started walking about 3 miles a day as well as doing toe curls (scrunching inward) and flaring out my foot several times a day and it finally resolved itself. I believe the main source of improvement was reducing my weight and walking every day. I have since started barbell training and have maintained my weight at around 200 with no recurrence of the PF. Hope that helps in some way.
