Hey BM Team,
I’ve been following you all for a while and have read/listened to quite a a bit about stretching, mobility and so on. As you all know, there isn’t much evidence in the way of performance improvement or reduced soreness/improved recovery with stretching. However, I can’t help but ignore my n=1 experience with improving my shoulder mobility through stretching - my pain has subsided substantially and I sleep much better now that I’ve mostly fixed the issue.
my question is this - does any of the current research look at simply “enjoying” the act of stretching? What about the incremental improvement in rom from stretching no matter how small? I know increasing ROM with load and proper form is one method, but can’t that be further improved and supplemented by programs like Pliability? There is no downside, right?
I know this is a bit of a rambling question but I find it hard to believe that stretching and mobility don’t have any real impact on overall health and training. Looking forward to hearing your opinions. TIA!
