Possible Egg Intolerance

Hello Dr. Baraki,

I have been eating eggs my whole life with no issue. However, I recently ramped up my egg consumption for no direct reason and have had nausea issues and ended up throwing up quite a bit after having 15 scrambled eggs within ~48 hours. I’m getting tested at the doctor’s for an egg allergy. I plan on possibly continuing to eat eggs at a much less frequent rate (maybe 6-7 a week) because I’ve ate them my whole life without any issues until now. Would I be missing out on anything important by not eating eggs? I hear they’re loaded with biotin and other things that we need.

Vomiting on its own is not indicative of an allergy, particularly in the context you’ve described. I would try eating one egg and see how you do before pursuing medical evaluation and allergy testing.

Eggs contain a variety of nutrients, but it is possible to live a healthy and complete life without them by obtaining your nutrition from other food sources, if desired.
