This is just something I’ve been curious about, but I’ve always heard that a protein in avidin in raw eggwhites binds to biotin (a B vitamin right?) and causes a deficiency. Nobody ever gives a realistic dose of how much is too much though.
I just checked with my buddy Dr. Wikipedia and he says it “may take months to years” of intake but didn’t give a citation or indicate if we’re talking daily or weekly or once a month or what.
I then consulted Dr. Google (a cancer specialist usually) and got this result: http://usmle.biochemistryformedics.com/hypoglycemia-due-to-biotin-deficiency/
This says deficiency happens all the time to bodybuilders and gives a case example that looks…like a fictional study case maybe?
So my question is are there any reported real world cases of this? Do you ever see it? Is it something to really worry about if I hold my nose and chug some pasteurized egg whites once a week? Once a day?
