Potential injury to fascia

I took a week and a half off barbell training for a camping trip, and during my first squat session back using a low bar position (which I normally train with), I had a rep where the bar rolled/slid a couple inches too low on my back. I didn’t think anything of it. The next day, however, and ever since then (it’s been about 2 weeks), I have had an on again off again burning sensation on my back where the bar rolled. It has no rhyme or reason, and seems to flare up at random, the only caveat being it never hurts during rest. It also doesn’t hurt during squats, but will flare up later on in the workout. The sensation feels like someone is holding a flame to my back and it can be quite uncomfortable.

I titled this thread “fascia”, because it feels like the exact same kind of burning I had when I went through a bout of plantar fasciitis. The area also crackles and pops in the morning, just like plantar fasciitis does. I have not been formally diagnosed or sought treatment, but I can’t help thinking that’s what it is. Very bizarre injury.

If you have any general recommendations regarding management I would really appreciate it, not sure what to do!

Thanks for your time,
Tim

Besides the off chance of the bar irritating your skin from rolling down your back, it is unlikely this would be enough force to cause an injury to your fascia. If you are able to keep training and performing your daily activities without any interference, then I would carry on. If you’re finding the symptoms too uncomfortable afterwards, you can always sub in front squats or safety bar squats for now. Symptoms like this are something I would put in the bucket of “will improve on their own with time” as long as you can find movement and activity that is tolerable. It’s unlikely there is anything you need to “protect”, just more of a matter of finding comfortable activity for now. Hope that helps, let us know if you have any other questions or updates!

Yes, absolutely helps! Thanks so much. I’ll be back if there are any updates and carry on as normal.
