Powerbuilding 2 or 3?

Hi all,

First off, thanks for so much fantastic content over the years! I’m currently wrapping up Powerbuilding 1 and really like the hybrid style of training, so wanted to continue on with 2 or 3. I’ve been following the template as-written, except I’ve added an extra LISS session each week and I skip the off-day, so effectively I just alternate lifting and cardio/GPP days. I’ve been able to tolerate this just fine, so I was wondering if I could jump straight to PB3, or if it would be wise to try PB2 once or twice first.

Some context about me: I have been training very consistently for 7 years, but recently had to take about 5 months off because I was undergoing chemotherapy (specifically 12 rounds of A+AVD for stage 4A Hodgkin’s lymphoma). I was actually able to train somewhat normally for the first couple rounds of chemo until there was a complication with my port and my oncologist recommended no more heavy lifting, but that’s a different story. I’m in remission now and have been back in the gym for about 3 months. My strength and conditioning are pretty much back to where they were pre-chemo and I imagine I’ll actually start hitting some PRs in the coming weeks/months. Here are my stats as of this week (lifts are 1@8, not e1RM):

26, male
5’5", 145 lbs
Squat: 335 lbs
Bench: 205 lbs
Deadlift: 365 lbs
Press: 115 lbs

Thanks again for all you do! It’s really made a world of difference in improving how I approach training.

Graham,

Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Really love hearing this sort of stuff. Nice work on your numbers as well!

As far as PB II or III, I think this is mostly dealer’s choice. If someone is confident in picking exercises and has been training as long as you have, I think it’s generally fine to jump into PB III. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, Jordan! Will definitely let you know
