If you have a client that prefers fat over carbs, are you okay with them skewing more of their macros in that direction? Let’s assume the person is lifting 4x/week, is at maintenance calories or even a slight surplus, and is purely interested in strength and possibly some hypertrophy. Is there a minimum amount of carbs you are okay with in this scenario? Thanks!
Eh, usually not to a huge degree. It’s kind of one of those things where I don’t really care what the client “prefers”. I don’t mean that in a jerk kind of way, but rather we are very adept at acquiring new tastes, new preferences, and new habits so I do not think their preference carries much weight initially. Later on, this may change- but initially- nah. This is kind of like training in a way. If someone walked into my gym and said I prefer training with kettlebells, train me, I would reply, “I would not recommend that for you over barbell training and here is why. Let’s do this instead.” If I can’t get someone to adopt what I know and believe to be a better option, we probably won’t work well together.
