How would/do you all go about programming for trap-bar jumps? I would like to use them in lieu of cleans and snatches for the high school athletes I train. The nice thing about cleans and snatches is that you can more clearly define a successful rep and track progress (as long as technique is already proficient). I’ve considered using various percentages of body weight for load assignments.
Depends on the program they’re being plugged into. I don’t think that that cleans or snatches have more objective metrics of “success” than trap bar jumps or clean pulls, as a successful rep may not actually be training the adaptation you’re seeking- high velocity force production.
That said, I might not program cleans, snatches, or trap bar jumps for the athletes you train depending on context.
If pressed, I’d use something in the 30-60% of 1RM range for intensity and ensure the bar velocity is high. I do not think BW-correlated loads can be used here.
