Programming with a hernia

Hi guys

Is the beginner program (and other BBM templates) suitable for someone with a hernia who has clearance to exercise? Should any adjustments be made (ie lower rpe)?
Appreciate this might be difficult to comment on, so I’ve tried to keep this question general in the first instance. Some context below, but any guidance would help.
My wife is looking to get back into training after a few years out. She has a post-partum paraumbilical hernia.

Her surgeon said it is very minor and to go about normal activities and exercise, with a view to getting surgery far down the road. Most of the other doctors, other than the very knowledgeable surgeon, have recommended things like near total inactivity (at most, gentle exercise), avoiding any kind of load bearing and likely never lifting again.

Following the surgeon’s advice, she’s started training again recently and the hernia seems to have increased in size, but there is no pain.

If the surgery is not indicated, no special modifications need to be made outside of managing any symptoms that arise.

If the hernia continues to increase in size, it will need to be repaired, but this is likely to occur even in the absence of exercise.

Thanks, Jordan.
