Since all of them have collagen how much of it accounts for the total protein of the bar? The current 1 im consuming has about 25g of protein and 10g of fibre im eating it mostly because of the fibre to hit my fibre for the day.
I don’t have a problem with protein bars and, in fact, I tend to have one daily (Builder’s Protein) before workouts or on a ride. I don’t think they’re uniquely good or bad, but rather an option for something on the go. Probably a bit less satiating than equal Calories from a protein shake or similar for most folks.
In your specific case however, I do not think the fiber content of the bar is a good way to hit your fiber goal for the day. Similar to fiber supplementation, I don’t think foods with added fiber do the things we want them to/expect them to compared to foods where fiber naturally occurs. We think this is due to the food matrix effect, where the sum of the food is greater than a particular nutrient. I feel somewhat strongly about this and would recommend changing it if you’re able to.
I see your point on fibre i try to keep my diet varied with fruits and veggies but sometimes i cant get enough fruits/veggies down be it im short on time and i cant prep or actually forgot to buy
This is the first I’ve heard the term “food matrix effect” but it seems intuitive that nutrition is a much more complex system than simply mashing together the right ingredients any which way. But I do sometimes see people arguing for overly simplified models, like saying you should be able live off french fries as long as you get enough protein, take a multivitamin, and control for calories. That seems like a wild take to me. Are you aware of any good clinical trials measuring the food matrix effect?
I’ve been to both of their factories and know where their protein comes from, all of which are 3rd party tested. Most foods will not be 3rd party tested per se’. As far as them being trustworthy, meh…I don’t know much about that. Supplement companies, on the other hand, are scum by and large.
The food matrix concept has been investigated in a number of trials. Depending on what outcome you’d like to investigate, there may be something comparing a specific nutrient in isolation to the whole food it comes in.
I can understand and I’m not blaming you in any way. I’m just advising that I’d be looking at increasing fruit, veg, whole grain, and legume intake for fiber vs choosing a particular protein bar.
I have no way of knowing how much collagen protein a particular manufacturer uses in their protein bar. I don’t personally buy protein bars or other supplements that have collagen in them
Thanks for your answers. Going abit off topic are you guys planning to release protein bars? Also i think few years back you were working on a cookbook aswell is it still in develpment? Im super interested in buying those from BBM same as other products
Not sure yet re: protein bars. Some of our staff are excellent cooks and had been hinting at a cookbook, but I don’t have a good sense on where this is in development. I’m hopeful we will be able to create some more products!
