protein intake prevents ketosis, but how are fitness professionals unaware of this?

the keto diet as proposed by fung/taubes/whoever is quite clear on the fact that if you get more than approx 1 g/kg of bodyweight in protein then much of it will be converted to glycogen, “ketosis” as they describe it will not take hold, and the calorically expensive metabolic processes responsible for using fat as energy in the near-term will not be called upon.

Since it is patently obvious that anyone (and I do mean ANYONE, regardless of their sensitivity to compensatory anabolic stimuli) with flat-out HEMORRAGE muscle on such a low daily protein intake, how is it possible that respected, credentialed fitness professionals like greg nuckols and a whole host of CSCS’s have laboured under the belief that they were/are “in ketosis” on much higher daily protein intakes?

Do they simply not understand what ketosis is? Are they using “ketosis” in a much looser sense, one that means something like “not having eaten any carbohydrates recently”? Or is there, perhaps, something more nefarious and New-World-Ordery going on here…

I don’t think people will hemorrhage muscle at 1g/kg per day necessarily, as there are other factors going into this. That said, I am not sure I can speak for other folks regarding what they think about ketosis. I don’t think there are any unique benefits to being on keto compared to another calorie restricted diet, but that’s about as far as I’m willing to go down that road.
