Question in regards to soreness in the anterior superior iliac spine

Doctors,

For the past month I have had a soreness on the right side of the anterior superior iliac spine (the right side from the observers viewpoint, my left). It is defined by a dull pain that is located at the point of contact at the anterior superior iliac spine. I believe the culprit is the iliopsoas group of muscles. I can aggravate this area by raising the knee towards the trunk and the discomfort fades from one squat session to the next, but is exasperated after squatting.

As the pain is not debilitating, do you think this is something that I can work through or is it something I need to deload and rehab immediately? I have started to actively stretch the area and noticed some reduction of discomfort, but as soon as the squats break 315lbs the discomfort seems to return. After reading an article Dr. Baraki wrote on pain, this makes sense as it is just utilizing movement to dull the pain receptors. I guess the big question here is do you think this is tendinitis or a sign of something more serious.

Thanks,

Paul

I’d start by posting a video of a heavy squat set to the BBM FB group.

Also, just because I can’t help but nit pick on this … there is no such thing as a “pain receptor”.

Right on. I’ll get that video to the Facebook page, thanks!
