Questions from the 7 rules to Optimize Protein Intake Blog

Dear Dr. Feigenbaum,

I seem to have a hard time understanding your blog; please forgive my lack of understanding.

You wrote that 3~4g of leucine is sufficient to maximize MPS, which one can obtain from ingesting just one scoop of whey protein. Does this mean that consuming more than a scoop of whey protein per sitting or eating a protein rich meal that exceeds 20g does not contribute to additional MPS? Would the rest of the protein just be stored away as glycogen and fat?

Sincerely,

Eddie Mun

It doesn’t directly contribute to MPS at that time, but may in the future. If not, it’ll just be used for fuel.

Also, the EAAs contained in one scoop of whey =/= the EAAs in a protein rich meal with the same amount of leucine so I wouldn’t equate 20g of whey to 20g of protein from beef.
