A couple of weeks ago, my left trap, shoulder, collar bone, and neck got extremely sore after 5x3 of power cleans. I figured I did the lift incorrectly and decided to omit cleans all together and move onto the Bridge. Day one of the Bridge, I got a shooting pain from my collarbone to my left shoulder, following the rack pulls. My wife found several knots in my traps, upper back, and shoulder area and massaged them out, with instant relief to the traps, neck, and collar bone. I decided to let this injury heal and I took 3 weeks off from heavy pulls. However, my shoulder has still been bothering me, it feels like I have a knot in my shoulder, but I can’t get it out.
Today, I squatted and bench pressed, with minor discomfort to my shoulder. It was the best my shoulder felt in a while, so I decided to deadlift again. I pulled 135, (with a double overhand grip), and felt my left collar bone and shoulder twitch, but it wasn’t terrible. So I jumped up to 225, (again double overhand grip), and I got a sharp shooting pain from my collar bone to my left shoulder, but it went away. I then jumped up to 275, (with a reverse grip) I did 5 reps and it wasn’t bad, but I stopped there for the day.
Following this light deadlifting workout, my left collar bone and shoulder have that same nagging and annoying discomfort. It isn’t painful, but it is hindering my workouts. Is this something you have heard of before? If not, does it sound like an injury or just a muscle strain that needs more time to recover?
