Greetings Doctors and others,
The last two or three times I’ve been deadlifting I have experienced a dull pain around my collar bone, perhaps near my sc joint but a bit more generalized. I think I’ve been shrugging my shoulders a bit at times during the deadlift which could be part of it and I feel the pain increase when the weights hit the platform during the lowering portion of the deadlift. While I was looking up information about improper shoulder use in the deadlift I came across a video that suggested pushing the shoulders down to activate the lats. When I do this hard enough, without a barbell or anything, just reaching hands down my sides towards my feet, I feel the pain around the collar bone area, almost like a cramp is about to come on or something. it is only on my left side only and not my right. On my right side my AC joint suffered a grade 3 separation which has my mind speculating whether my left side is somehow compensating for the lack of the AC joint on the right. But anyway, I was wondering if you might have any idea what might be going on that is causing this sort of pain and how to proceed with the deadlift. I’ll definitely try to remember to have long arms but aside from that I’m not sure what else to do; maybe do some shoulder exercises, stretch my neck, or something.
Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.
