Sleep quality discussioin

So Im wondering a few things.

  1. Is this the right area for this discussion?

  2. Is there anywhere on this forum that discuses maybe some tips/advice on how to get quality sleep.

I started a novice LP last year which I got my squat from 100 to 225 before stalling out completely. My body weight went from 170 to 190’s so I know food wasnt the issue.

I believed I was sleeping plenty long enough. Almost 8 hrs a night, yet my training seems to be getting worse and worse. I followed the program to the letter.

I found myself waking in the mornings feeling like garbage and almost hung over, thought I haven’t drank at all in years. I felt exhausted and took some time off.

Several months later I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which I found out I stopped breathing 29 times an hour.

One year later, I am fully recovered from a uppp surgery to help with my sleeping quality situation. The mask did not, nor did i want it to work for me.

I have to wait six months to have another sleep study to see how well the surgery has solved my problem.

During this time of no training, I have dropped to 178#. (5’9 35 yr old male).

My surgeon advised me that due to the severity of my condition, the surgery may not be a complete success and told me to quit heavy lifting and become a runner. This is not something I am willing to do. He explained to me the extra muscle mass in my neck area complicates and makes sleep apnea worse.

One month into a new LP and things have been going great. I started about 179# and now am about 184#. Sleeping was much better. No snoring (wife monitors).
But now that I have added just a few pounds on, my wife is noticing some snoring coming back, which is a bad sign.

I am not giving up on this.

This has made me realize there are probably thousands of people who literally think they are doing the program correctly, yet struggle not because they are not sleeping enough, but because the quality of their sleep is terrible and they do not even know it. I was told an 8 hr night sleeping when I had severe sleep apnea was equal to 3hrs of good sleep.

Any advice for people on ways to improve sleep quality? Dealing with sleep apnea?

My next option is a mouthpiece which is worn at night to help with airflow.

The C pap is my last resort. I know it would help, but I have tried it and to me it is insanely uncomfortable and there are numerous reasons to long to list as to why it is a last resort.

I have heard of INSPIRE, which is a new method to treat sleep disorders like apnea, yet I dont think my insurance covers it and I dont have 25000 laying around.

Thanks!

You need to start training again NOW, let your doc manage your sleep apnea, and you should be squatting into the 300’s even with sleep apnea.

Thanks for the sound advice. Much appreciated. Im on it.
