I don’t know if any of you routinely do programming/coaching for athletic teams, but what do you think about the efficacy of coaching/cueing athletes on “proper” sprinting and/or agility mechanics? I have not been able to find much research on the topic, only anecdotes from coaches.
Wil,
Like lifting weights, I don’t think there’s any one “proper” way to sprint, change direction, etc. Rather, I think there are general concepts that are observed in sport and athletes layer their own style on top of that based on their preferred motor patterns. I think that to the extent athletes can subtly change their mechanics secondary to coaching and then practice those movements that they can improve sprinting/agility mechanics and tolerance of that type of training.
