Starting swimming - breast stroke foot kick propulsion pressure area

Dear Barbell Medicine Team,

I suppose this is a question for Austin. I am able to swim, but have never received any special training. From all training videos I have watched on Youtube, there is one thing that I never get an answer to. I don’t know where to feel the pressure of the propulsion during a kick in a breast stroke swim. Is it the sole of my feet, or actually the medial side of my feet?

I guess I’m doing pretty fine with my hands, but I don’t get any traction with my feet (which supposedly should be the main contributing force to this style of swimming?).

I’ll probably get a coach some time, but like to tinker around for myself beforehand.

Best regards,
Mark

It is the medial side of your feet and shins.
