Stationary Cycling Effect on Knee Tendonitis

Hello Doctors,

With an injury to my groin area (as mentioned in an earlier post which I will submit a consultation form for as suggested) I am currently not able to squat. I had some knee tendonitis that was actually doing well considering I was squatting to the letter of the Bridge program. Now that I am pretty much only doing 2/3 of my workouts, I wanted to maybe increase some cardiovascular fitness a bit (a mild stationary bike ride 1x per week along with around 1-2 walks per week just to get some fresh air). I have already been going on walks but we know that walks don’t really stress the body much at all, thus me wanting to get some biking in. However, I would like to know if that is good, neutral, or bad for knee tendinitis. Thanks!

Hey Cole, tendinopathy is most related to “load tolerance” so as along as you are not exceeding the tolerance of the tendon cycling is a perfectly fine exercise. Honestly, if you are exceeding it, or butting up against it, it lets you know your current tolerance and you can start working on some adjunct either eccentric or heavy slow resistance training with which to increase that tolerance.
