Hello Friends,
I just graduated from University and am currently applying to med school right now. I’ve followed Austin and Jordan’s advice and bought and read through Motivational Interviewing 3rd edition by Miller and Rollnick. I’ve been practicing the strategies laid out in the book for a couple of months now while tutoring students for the MCAT/SAT/ACT and have found it to be quite successful in helping them improve their study habits. I’ll sometimes record my session (with the permission of the student) and listen to myself to improve. (Avoiding the righting reflex and other common mistakes). Does anyone have any recommendations on strategies, feedback loops, or tactics I can use to continue to improve my MI skills? Should I enroll in formal MI training? Should I hire a coach? What has worked for you all? I’m afraid that I won’t improve much without proper feedback from someone who knows more than I do in MI.
Thanks again for your time.
