Sudden loss of dominant-side strength with acute spine, lat, and shoulder pain.

Hello,I am a 19-year-old lifter (180 cm) who trains with high intensity and recently developed a sudden, severe muscular imbalance where my naturally dominant right side has become significantly weaker and less able to fire or stabilize weight than my left side. This motor deficit appeared alongside acute pain located exactly down the middle of my back and in my neck, localized pain in sections of my right lat, and pain in the heads of both of my shoulders. A general practitioner evaluated me but did not understand the athletic context or the severity of a sudden motor strength loss in a trained athlete. I am writing to you because I have very limited medical resources in my country, and I am highly concerned about this sudden loss of function, so I would deeply appreciate any clinical insight or guidance you can provide. Wish you the best, thank you.

I agree this requires further evaluation. However, if you have limited access to medical resources, there is little that we can offer via the forum / remotely, and we cannot recommend specific management strategies without the additional evaluation & diagnosis.

I’d recommend seeking a second opinion or, if necessary, going to an emergency department. Sorry you’re going through this.

Thank you for replying, but i have an aditional question: which doctor i must go to, an osteopath or a physiologist?

I don’t know what the scope of practice is for an osteopath where you live, but that may be appropriate. A competent generalist or sports medicine physician should be able to evaluate this, but it also could be evaluated by other specialists such as an orthopedist or neurologist.

Physiologists are generally not clinicians / physicians.
