tailbone pain after back tweak.

Hello

Last week I had a classic back tweak on deadlifts, my form simply brokedown and I rounded my back with 455 on my 4th rep and it hurt for a few days but went away, but now somethings different. I’m not unfamiliar with back tweaks and know how to deal with it, however this time I still have a irritated tailbone 1 week after the injury, also almost feels like its itching. It seems to be aggravated by squatting, benching, sitting and laying down. I can still move but it hurts to do certain movements/being in certain positions. My strength hasn’t gone down. I am thinking about lowering the intensity for a week and if it doesn’t get better possibly see a doctor. I understand that this being a new pain for me and it could just be my brain freaking out and telling me to be careful, but I hope to compete in powerlifting soon and would rather be safe than sorry. Thoughts?

It is common for symptoms to last beyond a week, so this is not too surprising.

Our general article on pain and this video lay out good strategies moving forward. If you continue having issues despite these strategies, a consultation with our rehab team would be the next best step.

Thanks for the reply, i will read this article. one more question: is the pain being totally localized in the tailbone common? Could this be more of a problem than non specific low back pain?

Yes, that is very common.
