The Bridge GPP AMRAP

How come the AMRAP on GPP days for upper back and abs are 7 mins on The Bridge 1.0, but 6 mins on 2.0?
Wouldn’t maintaining or increasing volume (mins) be more appropriate for strength and hypertrophy?

The Bridge 2.0 is just a modified version of The Bridge. They aren’t necessarily supposed to be ran back to back

Well, sure! I guess a better question would be:

  • What is the reason for the GPP volume fluctuations beetween different templates?

I think on any (relatively) complex template there is going to be a lot of give and take between different elements of the “prescription”, and with the BBM crew trying to take advantage of incoming empirical evidence to make their templates better, guessing the ‘why’ on a little detail like this is going to be a low probability endeavor.

My personal guess is it might have been related to the “bridge” aspect of many SSLP people coming in with zero GPP, and this being a little fine tuning based on the bridge being a transition between zero and where they want people to eventually get to. Or something related, like other changes in between the Bridge 1.0 and 2.0 were increasing the overall stress, and they were trying to make compensating changes to keep the stress about even (because they thought they got the overall stress basically dialed in with the Bridge 1.0 already). But all that is pure speculation. The precision might be pretty low on this sort of thing anyway. They could have maybe easily said “5 to 8 minutes of AMRAP”, except for then they would have been fielding a thousand questions on how to figure out when to do 5 vs 8 minutes.

It won’t kill you to keep it 7 minutes. Likely the reason for the reduced time is that the 2.0 template has more volume than the 1.0, and also has arm work scheduled 2x per week. Jordan takes all these types of things into account when making and balancing these programs. It’s also ok (optimal even) to wave volume up and down a bit between blocks, so it won’t harm you to do 1 minute less for the next 8 weeks. At the end of the day though we really are talking about +/- 1 set here, it’s really not a big deal either way. I’m sure Jordan would not be upset if you did extra GPP work.
