The overweight novice

For the novice who must lose body fat, do you still prefer they use NLP or is this a case for using a GPP program or at least programming GPP into novice LP?

Yes, we still prefer they use the novice LP, but would consider starting additional conditioning sooner than we otherwise would in someone who doesn’t need to lose weight.

I watched the 2 youtubes above and have a few questions. I am 6’4" and weigh 315.my waist is 48 but I have good blood work and blood pressure and am not diabetic. I started SSLP last week. I have modified my food intake after watching other youtubes by barbell medicine by upping my protein and lowering my carbs and fat.
I did some powerlifting about 5 years ago bopping from program to program and weighed as much as 350. I am 58 years old and my BF is in the upper 20s because I haven’t done much in the way of exercise in the last few years.

When should I add in GPP?

300 protein, 300 carbs, 80 Fat macros?

You should be aiming to bring your waist down now, and the weight training plus smart nutrition will help a lot with that. You will need to set a baseline of macros, see this article here, and then adjust them so you are losing weight as outlined in the article.

I’d set your protein at 250 and then adjust the other macros as needed. I’d expect that you’ll see some changes for several weeks with the training and the attention to your food, and you could wait several weeks before adding in a session of steady state cardio.

Thank you.
