Topics for future podcasts?

I often lift while listening to the Barbell Medicine podcast. They are fantastic.

I was wondering if you had any plans to do one on the psychology of training and how to approach training for different goals, how to deal with failure or not meeting your goals, dealing with weeks where the weights all are lower than the week before etc. The reason I bring it up is that I seem to have some kind of mental block for doing singles. On the deadlift for example I can do 315 lbs for a set of 8 at RPE 8. Theoretically, using that to calculated an estimated 1 rep max, I should be able to do 395 X 1 @ RPE 8. But I can’t even get close. The other day I attempted a single at 360, but couldn’t get it off the floor. I stepped back, kind of got pissed off, and tried again and got it with an RPE that felt like an 8. To me, that seems to be a mental thing.

Anyway, thanks for the great content.

Hmmm, maybe!

That said, I wouldn’t expect you to be able to translate your best set of 8 reps to a single without lots of practice at singles and I don’t think a set of 8 is a terribly accurate way to predict 1RM. I also wouldn’t expect your technique to be dialed in for singles without a decent amount of practice either, which you corrected in the second attempt. Overall, I think a lot of people may have unrealistic expectations for performance when skills they have not really trained are tested. Some of these skills are definitely “between the ears”. Knowing that may be helpful to bracket your expectations a bit better.
