torn rotator cuff

Hey guys, thank you for the free advice. My 65 year old mother who doesn’t lift injured her shoulder when moving a heavy suitcase a few months ago. The pain worsened over time and she got an MRI and was told it’s in fact a torn rotator cuff and she will need to have surgery. I know next to nothing about actual injuries and was wondering if you guys had any off the cuff advice (see what I did there?) such as whether surgery is actually necessary, quick tips on rehab, etc. In addition I was actually starting to sway her on the value of training so if you have any advice on pressing before and after surgery for a 65 year old rotator cuff tear, that would be welcome as well. Thanks again!

Hey,

Sorry to hear about your Mom’s shoulder issue.

We actually just released a blog today on this topic: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/shoulder-part-iv-the-rotator-cuff-teardown/?fbclid=IwAR0vGVPrTOhrqaBTnUlY3mGm28OmcTfD_a3yG3u5U-ivFyCwDrQCRLvzH_k.

Overall, the evidence is supportive of conservative management via education and exercise. Let us know if we can be of any help.

Yep just saw it in the instagram feed. Excellent timing. For a moment I thought you guys wrote a whole article to answer my question haha. Thanks!
