Touch and go bench vs paused

For someone that doesn’t plan on ever competing, would it matter if you did touch and go bench instead of 1 ct paused on The Bridge? Just curious, since touch and go is what I’ve always done, and now that I’m not doing it I’ve kind of lost my frame of reference. I will say, maybe it’s helping me with my chest more though? My close grip bench is about 15 lbs (7-8%) higher than my 1ct paused bench, so it seems like most of my touch and go is coming from my triceps instead of my chest. Or is it normal for close grip to be that much higher than paused?

If you can manage it, I’d try to do the paused. I think part of the reason they are included is that they are novel enough from touch-and-go to create additional needed stress, yet at a slightly lower absolute intensity to keep overall fatigue manageable.

With close-grip vs paused, there is probably a wide range of weight differences among new intermediates. For reference, my e1RM between the 2 are w/in 5 lbs of each other (paused a bit higher).

Ok, no worries. Good point about the overall fatigue, probably a good idea to keep that lower in this case. I assume TnG is included in some of the other templates?

I think CGB being higher than 1 ct paused is pretty normal if you’re regularly training CGB. My CGB started much lower than my 1 ct paused but flew up with the stress being so novel – now 8 weeks later and 4 weeks into the bridge it’s about 5-10lbs higher than my 1ct paused bench
