I have a company run next may so for now im lifting 3xwk plus one day gpp run. As I get closer to the run I should increase my running to 2-3 times a week, causing me to reduce lifting to 2 times a week. should I try to focus on strength during that time since volume will decrease? I don’t want to lose any muscle mass if possible but I also want to have my best run time
You are training for competing adaptations here, so maintaining 100% of your muscle mass while running the fastest possible time for you are not compatible goals. I agree with your changes to training frequency. I would aim to maintain a solid amount of training volume in those two sessions per week until the last 2 weeks or so before your run, at which point you can reduce the volume as well in order to dissipate some fatigue for your run.
Otherwise, don’t overthink things too much. You’ll be fine either way.
