Training in a fasted state

Docs,

Not sure if you covered this topic before. Would you happen to have any advice for this? I’m currently running the hypertrophy program on a cut. I never tried fasting and lifting before so have no idea how my body will respond.

FYI the fast is for religious reasons.

I wouldn’t recommend training while fasting, but if you have to do it…I’d train either right before you get to break the fast or right after the time where you can eat ends (and thus you begin fasting again).

Thanks Dr Feigenbaum. That seems to make sense. I will try to time it accordingly so to minimise the shortfall in energy.

Docs, on a similar note; is there risk in training immediately upon waking up in a fasted state? Might have to do this tomorrow to accommodate a busy work schedule. I would be able to eat immediately after training. Thanks,

There is no risk, but if you can eat prior to training, even a shake and fruit, that’s our general recommendation

Guys, I have no idea what to do and I need a piece of solid advice. A friend of mine, who I train read some BS from Ori Hofmekler and trying to train… Who are not familiar with Ori’s works, they are basically: fast for 23 hours and eat for 1 hour; veggies - proteins - fats or carbs. He also says that he is tired AF all the time. I think that it is a suboptimal way to train, should I trying to convince him or should I make him yolo?

I don’t think you’ll be able to convince him if he’s willing to buy into that BS. I had never heard of Ori H. before, but the guy isn’t well-educated in these matters so I’m not sure why anyone cares what he has to say.

I currently train fasted in the morning and eat oats and a shake afterwards. If I start having a shake prior to, would having a shake post training be unnecessary since I now have one before and there would not have been enough time elapsed for another bout of MPS to occur?

You do not need a shake immediately post-training in this situation, yes. If you have meal (shake and oats) prior to training, then post-training you would simply have your next meal 3-5 hours after meal 1.
