GPP hypertrophy on a fasting period

Hi doctor,

I want to start the 7 week gpp hypertrophy next week, knowing that I want to bulk and that I will be fasting everyday for a month, from 3am to 7am. I plan to train at night after breaking the fast and stay up at night to get my calories.
What advice can you give me concerning the training time and gpp time and is it possible for me to bulk under these conditions?

I answered your question about whether or not you should “bulk” in the nutrition section and just to reiterate, I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

In any event, I do not think there are any unique considerations for your training or nutrition because you are voluntarily participating in a fast. I do think we have reasonable evidence that more frequent protein dosings tend to promote more LBM acquisition in the short term and since you can’t really do that I don’t think this is the best time to gain weight. On the other hand, if you said you wanted to slowly gain weight (1kg per month), which is near my typical recommendation, then I’d be okay with that.

I’m not actually voluntarily participating in a fast, I mean yes I am but I just don’t get to choose the period. It’s a religious pillar:)
