Training with varicose veins

I am trying to get a better understanding of training with varicose veins because a lot of what I find online sounds a bit like bro-science, witchcraft, and/or something more advanced than I would like (e.g. operations). While in graduate school, a university doctor diagnosed me with a varicocele (TMI?). Additionally, the doctor noted that varicose veins are likely running up and down my left leg after I mentioned having achy and throbbing feelings in it especially after sitting or standing for a long time or wearing tight clothing.

Previously, when my workout was lifting focused, I only had issues with the varicocele acting up after especially heavy lifts. Now I am doing a more intensive cardio (elliptical) workout, I am finding that my left leg feels tender, especially behind the knee, up-to an hour or two after the workout. Is there anything I can do to reduce the varicose veins and varicocele from acting up? Does it just mean I need should not go as intense? Are there any foods or supplements I should be mindful of?

Do you have visible varicose veins? The way you described it, it sounded like it was just the doctor’s guess.

Varicoceles are common and often don’t require intervention, although they can sometimes cause issues with fertility and can benefit from treatment.

From a lifestyle / exercise / diet / supplement standpoint, there is not much you can do to modify these issues (if they are in fact what is causing your symptoms). If the veins bother you enough, a consult with a vascular surgeon may be beneficial.

Thanks for the response, Dr. Baraki. No, I do not have visible varicose veins. It was a guess by the doctor after I described my symptoms. They did mention that since my legs are large (I look like I can squat >2x what I actually can) they might not be visible on the surface. If I get the chance, I might ask for a referral/consult. Thanks again!

Yeah, I don’t buy this explanation tbh. Good luck!
