Uterine prolapse and exercise restriction

Hey BBM!

My partner was diagnosed with uterine prolapse after the birth of our second child and was told to avoid (indefinitely) certain exercises like crunches, squats and other movements that strongly involve the abs.

This sounds a little weird to me, since basically everything involves abs to some extent (e.g. going number 2)?

Would you recommend a second opinion here?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Matteo

Hi there –

Yes, this is extremely oversimplistic advice. There are a variety of considerations here relating to your partner’s anatomy, her health & fitness goals, as well as a variety of potential management strategies (including both more “conservative” / minimally invasive options, as well as surgical options) that should be discussed.

This is something we’d be able to discuss since we have a gynecologist on our team. If you’re interested in setting up an informational consultation, shoot us an email at support@barbellmedicine.com. Otherwise seeking a second opinion from a local gynecologist or urogynecologist would be appropriate.
