Uterine Prolapse and Lifting Weights

Hello Dr. Feigenbaum and Dr. Baraki,

I was wondering if you are aware of any data linking lifting weights to uterine prolapse?

Edit: see below

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Per the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, POP should be evaluated by a physician (gynecologist) if it is causing prolapse symptoms (ie, pressure with or without a bulge) or sexual dysfunction or if it is disrupting normal lower urinary tract or bowel function. Lifting does not seem to increase risk of POP and the benefits of exercise would typically outweigh the risks of POP-related complications from lifting, if any. That said, if particular treatment is required (surgery or other) due to unstable POP, this may be different.
