Hi Drs.
I’ve seen you regularly recommend keeping WC under 37" and 34" for Black/Caucasian and Asian males, respectively. Just wanted to get some clarity on what Asian descent here includes.
Is it limited to those from the far and south east (China, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines etc)? Does it also include those from the Indian subcontinent? What about Arab, Persian and North African (not technically Asian, but wanted to know since they don’t exactly seem to fall in the Black/Caucasian categories) ethnicities?
Thanks.
P.S. It would be great if you could comment on my new post in the Training Q/A from a month old thread. Not sure if it fell through the cracks. Please remove this postscript as you see fit.
Asian descent does include individuals from the India, but not North Africa, the gulf, etc.
There are some data sets on various ethnicities collated here: Body Fat – The Nutrition Source
It is pretty difficult to go back through pages and pages of new posts to find an old post someone has responded to. In the future, you may be better served by making a new post.
Thanks for the link. My follow-up question is, for someone who isn’t of the norm for their ethnic group, eg. a large-framed Asian or a slimmer built European, would you be comfortable recommending different WC cut-offs? Or is it not as simple as it seems and requires more information?
And sorry for the trouble. I didn’t know how the forum worked at your end.
I wouldn’t really feel comfortable with a specific WC. Rather, I. would likely assess the individual’s body fat to make the determination whether or not they were increasing their risk for adiposity-based chronic disease.
