Until recently (till i was about 19) i was much smaller than average, and under weight.
Throughout high-school i was 4’6-5’2, 70-100lbs
I’m 20 now, 5’9, 170lbs
Started lp @ 5’9, 115lbs
Maxes then: All sub 80, 70lb squats causing an actual injury
Maxes now (1 year later) (SBD): 240, 185, 335
My dad is actually really large, but shorter and he does absolutely nothing, doesn’t eat healthy (only cookies and ice cream literally) and is 52 years old. His ffmi, without lying or exaggerating (he doesnt work or train, never has) is 24. He looks like hes been training his whole life.
Meanwhile, i have thin wrists and have been training a year and am weaker than a sedentary professional ice-cream eater.
Is it possible that I improve at becoming sensitive to training, despite being a year in? At the 6th month point i did feel like i was making better gains than i did starting.
I just feel scared that i did permanent significant damage when i was younger, and i’ll never be athletic in any way. I will do all that i can to fix it, if i can. Ideas?
One more thing, what significance should i regard cutting with?
I really appricate this chance to ask these questions. After i make some money i’ll reciprocate.
Since i ate nothing, and was emaciated pretty much i am wondering if that periodic past of not eating properly (was just very picky) has any significant chance of affecting my gains now? I always feel like i am extremely insensitive to lifting, and considering the size of my dad (5’7, 185lbs really lean) it reinforces that idea.
So, what i meant by the cutting question is do you think i should prolong my bulk when most others would decide to cut (170lbs 20% bf) due to the past i experienced? Maybe a prolonged bulk might make me lack confidence, but be important for my health and necessary for me if i want to hit my strength goals in any reasonable amount of time. If i did stunt my growth or affect my phenotype in a detrimental way to gaining strength (this is all ignorant conjecture) im assuming staying in a calorie surplus for now might be important over not being fat as hell in the face. I’m 20, stopped growing in height about 1-2 years ago.
I apologize if this seems moronic, i think the SBD 3, 2, and 4 plate after a year of training dogma really got to me.
You did not do permanent damage to your physiology. And even if you did, there wouldn’t be anything you could do about it other than train more. Agonizing over your past decisions does nothing beneficial for you now.
We would also not recommend continuing to bulk beyond 20% BF, but I also doubt you’re truly at 5’9"/170 and 20% BF.
