Since I listen to music, podcasts and books all day at work for 11 hours a day, wondering what other people are listening to?
Also does anyone know if stitcher premium is worth paying for? (I currently use podcast addict on Android which I love but there is something exclusive on SP I was interested in.)
Thanks
here’s some podcasts I enjoy:
Henry Rollins on KCRW
You Are Not So Smart
Hardcore History
Radiolab
Art of Manliness
Revolutions
I too listen to podcasts and music all day. Mostly comedy ones such as Comedy Bang Bang, Hollywood Handbook, Judge John Hodgman, How Did This Get Made… I recommend not listening to those while lifting as it can be potentially hazardous to laugh in the middle of a squat. I’m glad you started this thread, I hope to get some good ideas from other replies
At some point I couldn’t stand listening to the vast genre of self-improvement type podcasts b/c so much of what is out there is really just a nice sounding opinion revolving around premises that aren’t grounded in evidence. That’s one reason I prefer the BBM approach of straight facts and CBT-adjacent concepts to the BB Logic warrior culture be-a-real-man fare.
+1 to the Revolutions podcast, and the host’s previous one The History of Rome. History, but interesting.
+1 Waking Up podcast when Sam’s not talking politics (boring )
Planet Money is great. Serial is superb.
Gimlet Media has some great ones. Crimetown and Science Vs are my favourites of theirs.
Sam Harris (Waking Up) is not just a great podcast in of itself, but opens the door to so many other fascinating thinkers. I’m currently pretending to understand Stephen Pinker and linguistics…
Dan Carlin
Bill Burr
RTS
Iraki Nutrition
Skeptoid
JTS
Ask Rip
I don’t think the Docs are prolific enough yet to really count as a regular listen. I assume everyone is like me and looks at it in the morning and weeps silently when it still shows the Ibuprofen episode (or now I guess it will be the Programming ep1). Looking forward to the day when they are putting out weekly episodes if that ever happens.
Last I checked I had about 50 streams subscribed to, but these are some faves (Non-lifting related)
Skeptics Guide to the Universe
Chapo Trap House
Street Fight Radio
All 3 Dan Carlin streams
Bill Burr
Dana Gould Hour
Champagne Sharks
Episode 1
Intercepted
Lore
Chomsky Audio Library
I love listening to “Stuff You Should Know” from How Stuff Works. Food stuff (also from How Stuff Works) is pretty good too, (and surprisingly very science-based, but also very interesting and fun to listen to).
I travel way too much for work (Austin, TX to New Orleans, a couple times a month, and Dallas, San Antonio and Houston are considered “local travel”), so I am always looking for more podcasts to keep me sane.
I don’t listen as much as I used to and plan on getting back into them, including some suggestions from above - thanks. When I last listened regularly I enjoyed Roderick on the Line, with John Roderick and Merlin Mann: Roderick on the Line Episodes - Merlin Mann Generally amusing story telling and discussion.
