A1C, pre diabetic

Howdy

Today my doctor said that I was prediabetic based on my A1C levels, (my fasted glucose level is 85, always been around it 80-85), and I should take care of it. I was surprised because, no close family member has diabetes, so, it was a shock. My guess is, my bulking gone wrong, trash food was my resource to going up(high fat meat, icecream, tons of nutelle, pizza, you name it), I kept going because of low waist increase, but I guess it was a reckless move.

Next week I will see a specialist to guide on my ending of bulking, but I know nothing about diabetes, never had someone close to me with it, is my guess right, or I should be worried?

age: 30, male
weight: 177lbs
heigth: 5’10’’
waist: 34’'(bulking)

6 years lifting with good adherence, 1,5 year as powerlifter, numbers(1rm):

DL: 341lbs
Bench press: 158lbs
Squat: 235lbs

What was your A1C level?

6.1%, avg 128.4 mg/dl. Another info, I am not doing cardio work…I stopped 7 months ago.

Just came back from the specialist, she said it was probably all the junk food that I was eating, she tried to explain, but I cant understand what she was saying, my question was:

ok, 6.1%, how much time do I have to correct it?this sample was taken 1 month ago, this is matters of days or months(years???) until I become a diabetic?

Also, she said to do the test again 3 months from now with a correction of my dieting, plus wont need metformin right now, will wait 3 months, I dont know if it is the best approach

I was cool before the appointment, but now I am kind scared haha

Yea, I’m not sure if it’s the junk food or if it’s the rate of weight gain coupled with other lifestyle choices (no cardio) and being dealt a poor hand genetically in this context.

I think you should follow up with your doctor for other questions you have.

That said, HbA1C levels are typically representative of the last 3 months of the average blood sugar.

I see, she said that I only need to follow a good diet, go to a nutricionist, and it will be fine. It is the really best approach? should I go to other doctor? I dont know if I am receiving the best treatment for the situation.

I cannot give you medical advice over this medium, but I would advise that you follow up with your doctor for any questions and concerns you may have.

I do think that reducing body fat is likely to help in your situation and it should be followed-up appropriately per your doctor’s advice.

thanks Jordan, I am already in caloric deficit, not eating any sugar, only eating fish for protein(I think I will be pescetarian for this year), and back to cardio.

I just came back from another doctor, and the same answer “just lose weight, stop eat junk food, go to nutritionists” and my only thought always is, “Am I the only one worry in this room? I just need to do this?”. I guess I need to chill and focus on my dieting

Yea I hear you. It’s sometimes hard to detach when it’s our own health!
