'addiction' to highly palatable food

If you’re someone who is addicted (in a non strict non medical sense of the word) to highly palatable foods and therefore have trouble controlling calorie intake, can you actually change your tendency towards highly palatable foods if you avoid them for a while in favor of fibrous fruits, veggies, etc? As an extreme example I’ve heard of people eating potatoes for a period of time and then no longer desiring burgers, cake, etc.

If you do not expose yourself to the trigger, you may not have the same reaction to it/desire for it as before. Sure, that’s reasonable.
