I coach strength training at my local high school. I run everyone through an LP, and it’s worked out very well.
MOST of my trainees play sports, meaning that I’ll have them for 3 months or so before they cycle off into their sport. This works out pretty well, because when they come back to me (usually 3-6 months later) I can put them back on another LP, and due to their detraining and physical maturation (especially for the ones that have longer breaks between LPs) they will push the LP past their previous ending points before they cycle off into another sport. Programming is relatively easy for these kids.
However, I have recently added a few other kids that don’t play sports, and just come in and lift.
“Jeff”, for example, is a sophomore, 15 years old. He’s getting to the end of his LP after 4-5 months of training (holiday breaks and sicknesses/etc break up progression). He can squat 3x5 for 250, bench 150 (3x5), deadlift 315 (1x5) and press 120 or so (3x5).
Where would you suggest Jeff goes from here, in terms of approach to programming and assuming strength is still his primary goal? Directly into The Bridge and then into more intermediate programming?
The crux of my question is essentially: “if you finish your LP mid- to late-puberty (15/16), is there ever a reason to return to a LP (aside from an extended time off from training)”?
