Alcohol Consumption for General Health

Hello!

Jordan and Austin mentioned in a video that they usually drink anywhere from 0-2/3 drinks in a given week and I’ve seen this mentioned on the forums before, but I’m looking for a more specific answer, if at all possible. I like alcohol and I would like to keep drinking in moderation, of course. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks per day for men. Similarly, Canada’s Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines recommend that: If you’re a man, have no more than 3 standard drinks a day on most days and no more than 15 drinks a week. If you’re a woman, have no more than 2 standard drinks a day on most days and no more than 10 drinks a week.

I am wondering if you guys agree with these guidelines (or with only one of them) and if you think that following them will cause any detrimental effects to training, specifically power lifting training and for general strength and conditioning.

Thank you!

Yes, we agree with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans in otherwise healthy adults. We don’t think there’s likely to be any effect on training with this level of consumption.

Jordan do you think that the way you split these drinks up effects things ? Maybe you don’t drink at all through out the week and then on Sunday you have 7-9 shots of some whiskey, do you feel that leaves a worse health outcome than spreading it through the week ?

Yep, hence the daily drink limit recommendations.
