Arms Go Numb While Sleeping

When sleeping I wake up constantly due to my arms falling asleep/going numb. I thought it was due to my weight (370lbs). I’m now down to 275 and it seems like it is getting worse. At first it only happened when sleeping on my stomach, and now it goes numb when I sleep on my side. When I wake up, I move and stretch things out and my limbs return back to normal quickly. With the weight loss my blood pressure is down, I don’t snore at night anymore (sleep apnea) and due to nutrition I’ve noticed some good progress in muscle gains (looking in the mirror and strength improvements in all lifts). Just wondering if this is normal or if further exploration may be needed.

It is difficult to say based on this limited information alone. It could be some form of compressive neuropathy, whether related to sleep positioning or, depending on the distribution of symptoms, something like undiagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome (as this can often result in arm symptoms too). Less likely would be a metabolic or vascular issue, particularly if it only occurs with sleep and not during the day while active.

Regardless, we cannot diagnose you from here, and if the symptoms are progressive/worsening, it would be very reasonable to get it checked out.
