So for the last couple of months my lifting has been on the back burner because I spent most of my time in the woods chasing deer around (excessively according to my wife). Since that has wound down, my assumption is that I need to go back on an abbreviated LP and then go back to the Bridge. The question I have pertains to next September as I have a pretty big elk hunt out west with a lot of hiking/rucking and hopefully packing a ton of meat out. When should I start adding back conditioning in to prepare for this. I don’t want my lifts to hurt because of this etc and I know once I hit the bridge I will get some conditioning in at that time. Just would appreciate some thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.
Andrew
What conditioning are you currently doing and what are your stats?
Hi Jordan thanks for the reply
I’m 38 y.o.
Weigh 237
Squat 320x3x5
Press 145 x3x5
Deadlift 330x1x5
Bench 210x3x5
During the bulk of hunting season I consumed a lot of my time with walking/hiking with a hunting pack and bow. Granted hiking in Louisiana where I live is mostly flatland. Not a whole lot of elevation. I do have a prowler and a rower and I did use these during this time period. Ran a few 5k’s. Nothing was set in stone or programmed. It was pretty random.
I re-read the TBAB article last week and followed the link to the conditoning article you had written that can be done during the LP. I would assume you would recommend this to be a good place to start. Certainly September is a long way off but I do not want to get behind as this will be a pretty intense week with regards to conditioning and endurance.
Yea I would start there. I don’t think you need to do specific conditioning this early on, but you probably are almost done with any meaningful novice LP and could stand to do a bit of GPP as you move forward in your training.
Thanks so much Jordan. Have a great one.
