basic strenth benchmarks for females vs males

Towards the End of starting strength(end of the novice phase) men typical achieve a squat somewhere around 315 and a bench around 220lbs. what would be the equivalents for females?

at the end of the Texas method men are expected to have a squat of 405 and bench of 315 once again what’s the equivalent for females once again. Also what other programmes would you recommend post SS and what variations of the TM do you think are best?

Thanks in advance!

I believe the more typical squat is in the mid 200’s for sets of 5 on that program. I’m not aware of the averages in women, as that wasn’t recorded when we looked into it based on people logging their training on the site. As I recall, the average bench in men was far less than 220 x 5, more like the mid 100’s. While squatting 3 plates may be possible in some, I don’t think success on LP predicts long-term strength development. In other words, the vast majority of individuals who do “better than average” on LP will never squat 500. I wouldn’t put too much (read: any) stock in how people do on LP for future results. I also would not continue trying to run the program over and over again…unless you never wanted to improve.

Most people will not squat 405 or bench 315 at any point with Texas Method, as it is not a very good program. I’d also posit that a 315 bench is more equivalent to a 500lb + squat as far as development goes. Additionally, people who have bought into that programming approach tend to keep repeating ineffective approaches due to their belief systems. I do not know the average response for women here and I do not recommend Texas Method.

We have many programs and resources available on our website. I would recommend our free Bridge program for those on SS LP. Then, use our quiz to help direct you to the next program.
