What’s the deal with the BBM Reddit? Are the mods over there just acting in bad faith? It’s a real post-apocalyptic “radiated men will eat the flesh of radiated men” vibe over there.
I don’t know the deal there, but I can assure you that it made me quite sad when I sat and read a bunch. To say I was crushed by some stuff said there about us over the weekend would be putting it mildly.
This is a platitude, but seriously: don’t let it get to you. It was probably like 4 dudes with multiple accounts. I was just surprised the moderators didn’t delete stuff.
You guys are seen as being in competition with an institution that can attract a… certain kind of clientele. Those kinds of people can be obsequious and reactionary; regardless of the quality of your personality or the service you provide, you’re seen as out-group now. When I read stuff they type on the internet, I’m reminded of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZvT2r828QY
I didn’t even realize there was a Barbell medicine Reddit. Then again I don’t even know how to use Reddit.
It sucks when people go off with half the information about a topic, but that’s what people do on the Internet. Reddit’s gonna Reddit most of the time.
The BBM team are all REAL people, in that you come across genuine, sincere, and open, and not robotic and sterile. The good thing is this stands you out from others, which helps build a community of people that somehow relate to you in some way on a personal level. The bad thing about being vulnerable, is occasionally putting up with this, which may raise doubts in how you’ve portrayed yourself, or maybe even if you want to be so visible to the public in the future.
Leah, I’m sorry the vulnerability of your role opens you up to comments like the ones you and the rest of the team received, and will likely never fully avoid. Don’t let what someone said add any doubts about how you conduct yourself. To me, and I’m sure the huge majority, you come across as a very gentle, kind, warm, and caring person. You are like the cool big sister of the group. The fact that anyone targeted you is the ultimate example of “you can’t please everyone”.
As for Jordan and the rest of the team, when you are confident and passionate in what you do, and are trying to make a real change, some people are not going to like it. That means you’re are doing it right. Please keep doing what you are doing and staying true to yourselves. It’s your openness and personalities that will continue to attract a majority of your audience.
Whats a Reddit??..
