I began supplementing with BCAAs pre workout, and I noticed that I am urinating significantly more often at night. To test this, I stopped the BCAAs, and my urination went back to normal.
My questions are: 1. Does this indicate too much protein in my diet? I eat a fairly balanced diet, and supplement with 1-2 servings of whey daily totalling roughly 220 grams daily.
2. Can I take BCAAs earlier in the day to avoid the nighttime inconvenience, while getting the same benefits? Thanks,
I’m not aware of any reason protein intake would have any correlation with urination, unless you’re drinking more water to consume your protein like @teddyd mentioned.
Honestly, if you’re eating adequate amounts of animal-based protein (meat, fish, dairy, eggs, whey, etc) daily, I’m not sure if BCAAs supplementation is particularly useful.
I’ve certinaly had this issue. I used to pound a glass of Whey before bed and I’d be up 4-6 hours later letting it back out. Now I don’t drink more than 4 ounces less than 2 hours before bed, and I make a whey “pudding” with just a splash of milk most nights. Problem solved.
Props to @LeahBBM for suggesting the obvious of replacing the shake with a less overly hydrating whey bolus.
