Optimal Consumption for Early Morning Workout (pre & post)

Thanks for all of the info provided here and on the podcast. I am awaiting the delivery of my Peri Rx w/ Caffeine. I also have WPI. Currently, I’m getting up at 4:40 to eat overnight oats(6 oz milk, 1/3 cup oats, 1 scoop WPI) and then start warming up around 5:00. Based on things I’ve read/heard recently, if I’m having that WPI pre-workout, there’s no need to have another scoop immediately after because I don’t need another “dose” of protein until 3-5 hours later. Is that correct?

Now, once I have the Peri in my posession, what’s the best approach? I’m a little confused on BCAAs and what your change in opinion has been over time. So, if I have both Peri Rx and WPI and I can consume one of them 20-30 minutes before my workout, which should it be (keeping in mind that I’d also have oats with the WPI)? And then what should I being consuming immediately after the workout if I’ve followed your advice on what to consume pre-workout?

Salvalva,

Thanks for the post and your business

You are correct re: protein dosing.

With Peri Rx, I’d take it pre and post workout as described and keep the timing of your regular meals 3-5 hours apart.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for replying, but I’m still confused. I probably didn’t make the question as clear as I could have. If I start taking Peri before my workout, as soon as I wake up, should I also be eating something? Put differently, what, if anything, does Peri replace? Sometimes stuff reads as if BCAAs replace a protein supplement and other things seem to suggest it does not. (I know, I’m a dumbass for ordering it without really understanding what it is, but these things happen)

I would at least have some carbohydrates in addition to the Peri Rx, which doesn’t replace anything really. You could skip the protein in your pre workout meal since you’re training so close to when you’re waking up (if you’re taking Peri Rx), but other than that let’s just consider PeriRx a supplement designed to improve your performance rather than a replacement for anything.

Thanks, doc! This is very helpful.
