Post workout nutrition when going to sleep straight after training

Hello Jordan,

due to schedule constraints I can only train at night. I’ll have dinner at around 6, and will then train at around 8. Once I finish the session, I’ll have a protein shake, quick shower, and then straight to bed.

This has worked fine for a couple of months, but now I have acid reflux issues, so the shake is probably not a good idea.

Should I consume BCAAs after the session? A supplement like Peri Rx? Or should I just not worry about it?

Thanks.

Have you tried this with whole food like Greek Yogurt or similar? I’d try that first. Then I’d see if you could try sleeping with an extra pillow or two under your head if your schedule demands this. If none of that works, I’d just swig some EAAs (like the new peri RX) and go to bed.

No, I have not tried Greek yogurt, I’ll give that a go, thanks for the tip.

Concerning the sleeping arrangement, unfortunately this is not possible. I do need to sleep on the side, wedged in between pillows to keep me from turning on my back. Else I wake up multiple times a night with a dry mouth, and get ridiculous headaches in the morning. I also apparently do snore and choke like mad when lying on my back, or so I’m told.

I went to a doctor for this recently after reading about all the sleep apnea related information you put out. They gave me a recording device that hooks to my finger, and send me home for the night. With the thing hooked to my finger and the device laying in bed, I of course barely slept. Still apparently this test showed I got not sleep apnea whatsoever. So I got referred to a neurologist for some reason, who is of course super busy, and can only see me in a couple of weeks.

So trying to work out a sleep study for the new year, but need to get clearance from my insurance first.

Yea I’d be interested in seeing what a sleep study in a sleep lab shows, but 10-4…see what you can do in the meantime
