Hello fellow athletes!
So, 10 days ago, after a deadlift session I started feeling “something” happening with my right shoulder, a clicking sound, which I ignored. Then after the last deadlift session that clicking became a feeling of something popping out of place and having to made movement adjustments to put it back in. I’m guessing its a tendon issue, which has now become more concerning, since its coming off even while the arm is at rest.
For some context, I’m a 45yo woman and have been powerlifting for over 10 years.
Last August I had an undiagnosed left shoulder paralysis. i have recovered to previous bench press levels since then. My last MRI showed “Significant tendinosis of the rotator cuffs tendons of note with edematous changes adjacent to their insertion site without significant tear. Enthesitis changes are detected at the humeral head, mainly posteriorly, where chronic inflammatory changes have formed at the glenoid with subchondral microcystic lesions formation.
Clinical correlation of the findings.”
I am unsure as to how I should go about this injury, since I dont know how serious it could be.
To move or not to move (GPT says I should use a sling😢)
Thanks and a healthy Xmas to everyone!
Hi Katia,
Sorry to hear about your most recent shoulder issue. Based on your report here, it seems that the sound and the subsequent sensations (pain?) are both concerning to you. Totally understandable.
To me, the sound and the history in the other shoulder are not that concerning. For the current issue however, I can’t comment on the severity of it without more information regarding symptoms, history, and your current status. I think this is likely best suited for a consultation with our pain and rehab team to figure out what’s going on and guide your management.
Generally speaking, complete rest is not recommended. Rather, we’d want you to find an entry point that was well-tolerated.

Hi Jordan,
Thanks for taking the time to reply on a weekend:)
Appreciate the feedback.
I would like to talk with your rehab team. Although I’m not sure that rehab is what I need right now, as the tendon seems to be in and out of its groove, making the situation awkward and occasionally painful.
Cheers. Just taking a break in between moving furniture
I think assessing your current situation and next steps is probably the most important part of the consultation. It is possible that you would benefit from a rehab plan or additional workup after that, but first things first, we need to figure out what’s going on.

Hello again and happy new year!
So the right shoulder sublaxation was probably caused by a SLAP I tear, that the doctor(s) decided should be treated conservatively, gave me a corticosteroid topical injection, told me to avoid overhead movement and heavy loads and sent me off, hoping for the best.
Any rehab plans for these kind of shoulder issues? I’d like to, at least, maintain my strength and hypertrophy gains, since my competitive powerlifting days are likely over.
Thanks!
I see. It would be very beneficial for you to consider a consultation with our pain and rehab team. I would have preferred this to happen before your visit to the doctor, but that really is the next step.
If this is not something you are open to, we do have a shoulder rehab template, though I really think a consultation would be best.
Will consult with your team.
Thank you!
