Breathing during 5-3-0 tempo squat

Hi,

I’m on week 5 of the 12-week strength template and did my first 5-3-0 tempo squats this afternoon. I think they were all @RPEhellish.
What sort of breathing pattern would you recommend? I couldn’t hold a valsalva for an entire rep. Instead, I held the valsalva for the descent, took a couple of breaths at the bottom, and exhaled on the ascent. My sets were 185x10 (too much); 155x10; 165x10; 155x10. For reference my belted squat this week was 355x1x1@8.

I woudn’t advocate for any particular breathing pattern, which suggests that there is a right and a wrong way to breathe. On efforts like this, you should breathe as you need to. I personally take a breathe before I descend, breathe out and back in again during the pause, then breathe out at the top before taking another breath.
