I started the bridge today. I failed on my last rep on the close grip bench. Should I have taken weight off so I could finish the last set of 4?
Was the previous set a true RPE 8, and if so did you jump about 5%? If so, then take it and learn from it as far as rating RPE for you personally. Maybe jumps for you are a little less whereas jumps for someone else are more than 5%. Everybody is different so you have to adapt RPE to you. The percentages related to RPE are just general guidelines. You are going to have to figure out how it applies to you. That last rep isn’t going to make or break you. If you are shooting for an RPE 9 and it turns into an RPE 10 I would end it there.
Yes. You should have. Just do better next time.
Thanks for your remarks
Really? On a low stress week he hit a set of 3 at RPE 10 instead of a set of 4 at RPE 9, and you want him to add to the volume and do another set at RPE 9 over one rep?
I guess I didn’t understand OP. I took it as it had one more set to do and he was asking if he should take weight off the bar and do the last set. The answer would be yes,
If it was the last rep of the last set then, no, no need to redo the last set. Just do better at picking the load next time.
I thought the first week of the bridge was one set, but i went back to double check. Only one top set for every lift the first week except rows.
